98 Points,Decanter
The origin of Lot C-91 begins in the fall of 1969 with the idea that through meticulous site selection and assemblage, we can create something more significant than the sum of its parts. This historical cuvée is sourced exclusively from the renowned single vineyards of Heitz Cellar and showcases a most unique expression of the terroir of the Napa Valley.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon, farmed sustainably and certified organic by CCOF and Certified Fish Friendly Farming.
“Lot C-91 is the culmination of 50 years of tireless effort, trial and error, and the continual desire to make a most unique expression of the heralded vineyards of Heitz Cellar. We are honored to re-release this cuvée, in honor of Joe Heitz.”

The 2021 Vintage
Flashing a brilliant ruby-purple robe in the glass, the first impression from this wine is a beautiful florality, with red roses and violets accenting a vibrant black cherry perfume. Fresh, vibrant purple plums join on the palate, with top notes of mint and dusty chaparral. This wine hangs together beautifully, with juicy acidity supporting a medium-full body with polished tannin. This wine is drinking gorgeously now but will continue to improve 20 years or more.
98 Points, Decanter
“The fruit, aromatic precision and focus of this wine are something to experience. Compact, with firm, taut, mineral-rich tannins and gorgeously pure cherry fruit, underpinned by graphite minerality and fragrant violets with white pepper nuances, and showing stunning purity of fruit on the lengthy finish.”
– Jonathan Cristaldi, January 2026
In the vineyard
Throughout the years, studying Joe’s notes and gaining a deeper understanding of the terroirs of the various parcels has allowed us to resurrect Lot C-91, a historical cuvée with an unprecedented depth, complexity, and aging potential.
In keeping with the original vision, Lot C-91 is sourced from treasured parcels in Western Oakville, Eastern Rutherford, Howell Mountain, and represents a greater step up in quality from the acclaimed Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Our barrel selection for Lot C-91 is typically less than 10% of the quantity that we bottle as Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
In the cellar
Aged for three years in large neutral casks and a combination of new and used French oak plus one year in the bottle, 2021 Lot C-91 exhibits the density and length of which only the truly great wines of the world are able to achieve. The conclusion of the Lot C-91 on the palate displays incredible complexity and harmony, and those who can afford to be patient will be rewarded for decades to come.
