2005 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Limit: Up to 6 Bottles
2005 was the cool, patient one. A long growing season and a late harvest gave us the most graceful wine of the three, all aromatic lift and fine-grained tannin, with a sense of proportion I would call European if it were not so clearly Oakville. Perfumed, light on its feet, and in absolutely no hurry.
2006 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Limit: Up to 6 Bottles
2006 was the year that tested everyone. Flooding, a wet spring, a record heat wave in July, then a merciful August that let each block ripen at its own pace. That struggle reads in the glass as savory complexity: dried herbs, iron, black olive, tobacco leaf. The most classical of the three, and the most firmly built.
2007 Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Limit: Up to 6 Bottles
2007 was small and concentrated from the start. A dry winter and sparse berry set meant less fruit, but with more of everything in it. It remains the powerhouse. Dense cassis and dark chocolate wrapped in fine, still-coiled tannin, with plenty held in reserve. Fittingly, this was the vintage of our fourth commemorative Martha’s label, dedicated to the May family.
