“From the legendary Martha’s Vineyards at the base of the Mayacamas in Western Oakville near To Kalon. There’s a special quality in the air around Martha’s Vineyard because of the towering Eucalyptus trees along the eastern parameter where the Martha’s Vineyard clone takes on some of those minty notes. Bay laurel freshness leads from the glass, and the palate showcases full development of flavour with crunchy red berry fruit, spice, menthol, eucalyptus, and a foundation of ultra fine tannins and firm spine of acidity. The wine is just gorgeous. Flavour-packed and expressive, it is likely going to outlive most of us. It is a wine you can drink 90 to 100 years from now, mark my words. You can enjoy it now for its mineral intensity, its acid freshness, and pure fruit flavours, but it’s a wine you should have with a meal if you attempt to drink it anytime before 2050 (after that, maybe just enjoy it on its own).” – Jonathan Cristaldi

Cassis, dark plum, and a lift of violet rise over sweet cedar and cocoa, all carried on fine, firm tannins toward a long and savory finish. It is beautiful now with a decant, yet its real gift is patience. This wine is always crafted with the same intention as its inaugural 1961 vintage: lush fruit that makes it easy to enjoy upon release, but the structure to age for decades in the cellar.

2024 Quartz Creek Vineyard Chardonnay

The Quartz Creek Vineyard is situated at the base of the Mayacamas mountains, in the northwestern corner of the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. This site takes its name from an abundance of quartzite found throughout the bedrock and upper layers of the soil. This material provides a tension and energy seldom seen in Chardonnay from the Napa Valley. The parcel sits at one of the northernmost locations, still capable of producing elegant and balanced Chardonnay. It is often blanketed with a thick layer of fog throughout the late evening and early morning, helping to temper the Mediterranean climate of the Napa Valley.
